1638 - first record of someone living at 'Slipecot Hill'

1808 - residents start attending Pole Moor Baptist Church

1820 - first recorded use of 'Scapegoat Hill'

1823 - Golcar Enclosure shows 8 landowners at Scapegoat Hill

1840 - 14 men from the village are qualified to vote

1841 - 290 people in 52 families recorded in the Census

1850 - opening of Baptist Meeting Rooms and Sunday School

1851 - Census records population of 291

1859 - start of Silver Band

1861 - Census gives population as 483

1871 - Census gives population as 464

1871 - opening of Baptist Church

1873 - high level of 'zymotic disease' (typhoid, scarlet fever, smallpox)

1875 - re-opening of school

1881 - population of 669

1880 - manse built for Baptist minister

1880 - founding of the Co-operative Society

1884 - Church lit by gas

1888 - formation of Liberal Club

1891 - population of 892

1894 - school ceases to be run by Church, coming under Golcar School Board

1900 - Baptist Church opens on current site

1901 - population at 722

1902 - school extended

1903 - graveyard first used

1908 - opening of Socialist Club

1911 - drop in population to 411

1914-1918 - 270 men serve in the armed forces; 38 killed

1928 - electricity now in the village, lighting the Liberal Club

1947 - fire at the Co-operative Stores

1977 - Co-op closes
